New Accessible Dock At Mosaic's Loon Lake Campground Makes Fishing Access Easier
Nanaimo, BC — Mosaic Forest Management and the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC have completed the installation of an accessible and family-friendly fishing dock at Mosaic’s ʕaʔuk ʔaama k̓anis/Loon Lake campground near Port Alberni, BC. Loon Lake is a trout-stocked lake (since the 1920’s) offering breathtaking views of Mount Arrowsmith just 10 minutes east of Port Alberni.
Fishing is a fun outdoor activity that can be enjoyed by everyone, including those with physical or mobility impairments. The new accessible dock at Loon Lake, and others like it on lakes throughout BC, have bumpers and a wide, graded path approach.
“This investment in Vancouver Island’s beautiful outdoor spaces supports Mosaic’s focus on working with communities to expand recreational opportunities in and around our working forest,” said Domenico Iannidinardo, Senior Vice President, Climate & Forest and Chief Forester. “Fishing is a wonderful recreational activity, and I’m proud of the partnership with the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC for helping us realize this vision at Mosaic’s campgrounds.”
The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC is a non-profit organization with the mandate to enhance and conserve BC’s freshwater fisheries for the benefit of the public. “Docks benefit anglers of all ages and abilities. By improving access to recreational fisheries, we’re helping fulfil the desire and need we all share to spend time outdoors,” said Adrian Clarke, Vice President, Science and Recreational Fishing Development.
The new dock at the ʕaʔuk ʔaama k̓anis/Loon Lake Campground is now the second dock installed at Mosaic’s campsites joining a similar dock at Kissinger Lake west of Duncan that was installed this summer.
