Mosaic announces its 2022 Citizen Of The Year – Louise Bender

Mosaic’s annual Citizen of the Year Award recognizes an employee who has helped strengthen the well-being of their community. Nominated by colleagues for her leadership and extensive community outreach, we’re pleased to announce that our Citizen of the Year Award for 2022 goes to Louise Bender!

If there’s a defining feature about this year’s Citizen of the Year, Louise Bender, it is her ability to anticipate needs and help people find corresponding resources and support.

As Vice President, People & Administration at Mosaic, it’s Louise’s passion—and core to her job—to connect team members to the training, information, and opportunities that will help them thrive and grow. Outside of Mosaic, you can find Louise volunteering with the community group 100 Women Who Care Mid Island. Here, she works to raise money for local charities while helping others expand their networks and build new community connections.

“We’re so privileged and lucky – I just try to give back in little ways that make a difference – sometimes it can only take half an hour,” Louise said. “For example, when I hear someone looking to pass on their kids’ clothing, I look for those who might need it the most.” For Louise, there’s an opportunity to do good almost anywhere and at any scale.

Louise will direct her $2,500 Citizen of the Year award to the Tsow-Tun Le Lum Society, an Island-based organization that helps those seeking treatment and counselling for substance abuse. Their work inspired her after attending Mosaic’s learning event to mark National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Mosaic’s guest speakers for the event, Mr. Harris and Ms. Tate, also work for Tsow-Tun Le Lum (which translates to Helping House). The organization is working to raise $5 million for a new centre on Vancouver Island. Recognizing the immense need, Louise was eager to lend her support.

“This was the perfect opportunity to give back and truly give to an organization that cares and is doing important work in helping people with substance abuse and trauma,” said Louise.

Louise is Mosaic’s third recipient of its annual Citizen of the Year award. Thank you, Louise, for continuing to act on opportunities to help those in need in our communities!
